About Us

Solomon's Word Theatre Initiative was founded in July 2015 by playwright and visionary Rickey Solomon II, in partnership with Carl Felton III. What began as a shared dream to inspire communities through the arts has grown into an organization that electrifies audiences in theaters throughout Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.

Rickey wrote his first stage play while still in high school, premiering it at his local church in Baltimore. But life tested that dream early. After his father suffered a near-fatal accident in 2005, Rickey's family lost their home and faced months of uncertainty. Through it all, he never stopped writing, pouring his experiences into stories and using the arts as his outlet and his purpose. He went on to become the first in his family to graduate from college, earning degrees from the Community College of Baltimore County and Towson University, and he carried that same determination into building Solomon's Word.

Rickey and Carl started the organization by bringing original productions directly into high schools, planting seeds in the communities that needed inspiration the most. That grassroots work built momentum, and in 2018 Solomon's Word produced a live recording of its first original stage play, Love University, followed by a four city tour. From 2022 to 2024, the organization held a three year residency at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts, where its acclaimed original musical The Anatomy of Love sold out shows and earned praise from audiences and press alike.

We have a unique culture at Solomon's Word that is built on family and servant leadership. We believe the best way to achieve a high level of success is through investing in our team and cast members with one shared goal, to inspire a generation through performing arts. Over the past decade, we have provided more than 45 acting and performing opportunities in the Baltimore and D.C. area and received numerous state and local recognitions for our community involvement and philanthropy work.

Now entering our next chapter, Solomon's Word Theatre Initiative continues to grow, expanding our reach, developing new original works, and staying true to the belief that the performing arts have the power to change lives.

Anatomy of LOVE

The Anatomy of Love takes you on a journey through the life of Autumn Phelps, a newly engaged daughter returning home after five years to visit her family. Love is in the air, and everyone is excited about where life has led them, especially her two sisters. When unforeseen circumstances cause Autumn’s visit home to be extended a little longer than expected, time quickly reveals hidden truths and unhealed wounds that test the strings of the heart. When it all seems to fall apart and be over, it will take faith, courage, and the wisdom of their mother to teach them the Anatomy of Love. This RIVETING and HEARTWARMING musical is sure to be the stage play of the year that your entire family will enjoy.
